ELPA21 assessment items simulate real-world discourse, and incorporate digital avatars and computer-based testing formats to create a more engaging test experience for students.
Item Development
ELPA21 items were created with input from educators and assessment researchers, based on research from ETS and UCLA CRESST. Ongoing improvements ensure our items stay accessible, interactive, and current.
Sample Items
ELPA21 sample items, shown below, can be used to familiarize students with the types of questions they will interact with when taking the assessment. These items cover all four language domains and five grade bands (K, 2–3, 4–5, 6–8, 9–12). Domain and grade band are indicated by the blue strip at the bottom of the screen.
